Abhishek Nayar joins KKR support staff a day after being sacked from Indian Cricket Team

Just a day after being sacked from the Indian Cricket Team, Abhishek Nayar now has a new home. Abhishek Nayar previously served as the assistant coach for Team India. But now, he has joined IPL 2025 side Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Nayar has joined the support staff and is slated to join the KKR today, Saturday, April 19.

After being relieved of duty from the Indian Cricket Team, Nayar has now rejoined the Indian Premier League (IPL). Nayar joined Team India after Gautam Gambhir was appointed as the head coach of the team.

Abhishek Nayar joins KKR support staff

Abhishek Nayar joined Gautam Gambhir as the assistant coach. But it has not been a good run for Nayar. After the humiliating 3-1 loss to Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT 2024), questions were raised about the credibility of the support staff.

And just after a year into the national team stint, Nayar has been sacked by the BCCI. Not just Nayar, but two other members of the support staff have also been removed. These include fielding coach T. Dilip and S&C coach Soham Desai, who have served their 3-year stint in the BCCI.

Further reports also claimed that the team was disappointed with Nayar. This came after reports of dressing room leaks came out in Australia during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
