Suryakumar Yadav Starts Recovery After Sports Hernia at NCA, Targets Asia Cup 2025 Comeback

India T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav has started his recovery work at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru. He is there for rehab and fitness tests after recently undergoing surgery for a sports hernia in Munich, Germany. The 34-year-old is aiming to return in time for the Asia Cup 2025 in the UAE next month.

Suryakumar had the operation in June and has been resting and training under medical supervision since then. His wife travelled with him to Germany for the procedure. Soon after the surgery, he shared a photo from the hospital and thanked fans for their wishes, saying the surgery went smoothly and he was on the road to recovery.

Because of his rehab, Suryakumar Yadav will not play for West Zone in the Duleep Trophy. The team goes straight into the semifinals but he will skip the event to focus on being fully fit for the Asia Cup, which begins on September 9.

Suryakumar Yadav Focused on Asia Cup 2025 Return

The lower right abdomen injury was troubling Suryakumar for weeks before he chose to have the surgery. He continued playing through the Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025), where he scored 717 runs in 16 innings, but decided this break in the calendar was the right time to get it fixed. The procedure in Munich was successful and since then he has been following a step-by-step recovery plan.

The BCCI medical staff at the CoE are monitoring his progress closely. His goal is to be fully fit for the Asia Cup, where he is expected to captain India.

Mumbai Cricket Association officials have said he is confident of making it in time. India will begin their campaign against the United Arab Emirates on September 10 in Dubai.

Shreyas Iyer's Fitness Check

Shreyas Iyer also visited the Centre of Excellence last week for a routine fitness test. He has since returned to Mumbai.

Unless there is a late call for him to join the Asia Cup squad, he will play for West Zone in the Duleep Trophy under Shardul Thakur.
