Former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly has been named as the head coach of Pretoria Capitals ahead of SA20 2026. This will be his first stint as head coach of any team in franchise cricket.
Ganguly replaces Jonathon Trot in this role, having already acted as the director of cricket for JSW Sports - the parent company of Pretoria Capitals - since last year.
Ganguly was previously associated with Delhi Capitals as their Director of Cricket between 2018 and 2019. He vacated the post after being appointed as the BCCI President in October 2019. He remained as the BCCI President till October 2022.

Centurion Awaits - Capitals Announce Sourav Ganguly's Signing As Head Coach
Meanwhile, Pretoria Capitals announced Sourav Ganguly’s appointment via their official social Instagram account.
“The Prince is all set to bring a royal flair to the Capitals camp! We are ecstatic to announce Sourav Ganguly as our new head coach. The Centurion awaits” the Capitals wrote in their official Instagram account.
Sourav Ganguly will now oversee the proceedings for the franchise in the SA20 auction on September 9, 2025. Talking about the franchise, Pretoria Capitals made it to the final of the SA 20 in their debut season in 2023. In the next two seasons, they finished fifth on the table, consecutively failing to qualify for the playoffs.
The Pretoria Capitals will be banking on his experience as a former captain and someone who has been closely associated with Delhi Capitals. The SA20 franchise would also bank on Ganguly’s previous experience as the president of the Cricket Association of Bengal from 2015 to 2019.

Sourav Ganguly To Be Part Of Pretoria Capitals' SA20 2026 Auction
Ganguly’s first major involvement with the Capitals ahead of the start of a new SA20 season will be at the auction table. He will oversee the proceedings at the auction, which will be held on September 9, 2025. The squad is likely to see a few changes under the new head coach, who is set to bring his experience into play. The SA20 2025-26 season will be played from December 26, 2025 to January 25, 2026.
