Royal Challengers Bangalore were hit by a body blow after losing to Gujarat Titans at the Chinnaswamy stadium in their first home game. Virat Kohli survived a finger injury while trying to save a boundary.
Kohli, who was dismissed cheaply, tried to save a boundary at square leg but instead copped a blow on the middle finger of his left hand. He was in pain as the medical staff ran to check on him.
He did stay on the field for the remainder of the game. However, after the match ended, his injury concern has been one of the most debated topics from the game.
Update On Virat Kohli's Finger Injury
Virat Kohli ended up hurting his finger while attempting to prevent a boundary during GT’s chase of 170 runs. The Titans successfully chased down the target inside 18 overs as RCB lost their first game of the season and their very first game at home in IPL 2025.
GT opener Sai Sudharshan swept a delivery from Krunal Pandya. Virat Kohli, fielding at deep square leg, tried to field the ball but received a bad bounce. The ball hit the middle finger of his left hand before rushing past the boundary for four runs. Kohli looked in a bit of pain before the physio attended him.
“Virat looks fine; he’s okay, there’s no worry,” said Flower after the match, which RCB lost by eight wickets for their first defeat of the season in three matches.
The RCB head coach further assessed the reasons behind his team's loss in the contest. He said that the toss played a major role in the game. He also said that Mohammed Siraj's spell with the ball also made a huge difference in the match as well.
“The toss was reasonably important, as there was quite a bit of dew; we knew that. It wasn’t a typical Chinnaswamy wicket, where you expect the ball to come a lot quicker. That’s not the reason for the result. Siraj bowled an outstanding spell with the new ball; his lines were good, his lengths were tight, and he threatened the stumps a lot, so good on him. We all rate Siraj very highly, of course, and we love Siraj" said Andy Flower.
Siraj, who played seven seasons with RCB before moving to Gujarat Titans, picked up 3/19 in his four overs and was named the Player of the Match. Talking about RCB, they take on MI next at the Wankhede on Monday (April 7) and then play the Delhi Capitals at home on April 10.
