Punjab Kings (PBKS) defeated Rajasthan Royals (RR) by 10 runs in the 60th match of the Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on May 18.
Chasing 220 runs, Rajasthan Royals were off to a brilliant start with their openers Yashasvi Jaiswal (50 runs off 25 balls) and Vaibhav Suryavanshi (40 runs off 15 balls) going all guns blazing.
The duo formed a 76-run partnership in just 4.5 overs but after their dismissals, RR failed to maintain the momentum as their innings eventually derailed.
Harpreet Brar's Three-For Stuns Rajasthan Royals
After Jaiswal and Suryavanshi tore apart the likes of Marco Jansen, Arshdeep Singh and Xavier Bartlett, Punjab Kings’ stand-in captain Shashank Singh turned to Harpreet Brar, who delivered in his first over and dismissed Suryavanshi after getting hit for two boundaries.
Jaiswal brought up his fifty in the eighth over in just 23 deliveries off Brar. Soon after the milestone, he holed out at long-on as Brar sent both the southpaws packing.
Sanju Samson (20 runs off 16 balls), who was making his comeback after recovering from an injury, played a couple of good shots. But that was all he could manage as Azmatullah Omarazi showed him the way to the exit door in the 11th over.
Brar came back into the attack in the 14th over and made an instant contribution, dismissing Riyan Parag (13 run off 11 balls).
Dhruv Jurel Gives His Best But RR Fall Short
Dhruv Jurel (53 runs off 31 balls), batting at No. 5, ignited hopes with his knock. He smashed his second half-century of the season. But without any support from the other end, he could not lead the Royals to the win.
Arshdeep bolwed a brilliant penultimate over and conceded just eight runs. RR needed 22 runs off the final over of the innings with Jurel and Shubham Dubey (7* runs off 7 balls) at the crease. Jurel perished on the third ball of the over off Jansen and with that RR's remaining hopes of pulling off a miracle faded.
RR eventually finished at 209 runs for the loss of seven wickets and lost yet another close game by 10 runs.
With this victory, Punjab Kings moved to second place on the IPL 2025 points table, while Rajasthan Royals remained at the ninth spot.
