Gujarat Titans (GT) won the 14th match of the Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) by eight wickets.
Chasing 170 runs, Gujarat Titans’ openers, Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan, opted to take a cautious route as only 15 runs came off the first three overs. Despite the pressure, Sudharsan threw caution to the wind. He grabbed the bull by its horns and tore Josh Hazlewood apart, smashing him for two boundaries in the fourth over, including a four and a six.
Shubman tried to do the same. He launched the ball into the crowd in Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s over but was dismissed on the next delivery as RCB got their first breakthrough.
It was all Gujarat Titans from thereon. Jos Buttler, batting at No. 3, looked rusty at the start, But, as the innings progressed, he found his rhythm. The Englishman led a carnage in the ninth over bowled by Rasikh Salam, RCB’s Impact Player, and hammered him for two sixes and a four.
Sudharsan continued to play with the field. He found gaps regularly and kept the scoreboard ticking, ensuring that GT always stayed ahead of the asking rate.
Krunal Pandya, bowling the 12th over, was taken apart. He was hit for two fours and a six by Sudharshan. As the game slipped from RCB’s hands, Hazlewood brought them back into the contest with Sudharsan’s wicket in the 13th over. The southpaw perished after scoring a 36-ball 49.
Sherfane Rutherford joined Buttler at the crease. The duo felt no discomfort and marched on the path towards a comfortable win.
Buttler completed his fifty with a six in the 15th over. He put Rutherford at ease. They combined together for an unbeaten 63-run stand and finished the chase early, tonking Hazlewood for three maximums in the 18th over.
GT, eventually, crossed the finish line in 17.5 overs, winning by eight wickets. Buttler and Rutherford stayed undefeated at 73 and 30 runs respectively. Mohammed Siraj was named Player of the Match for his spell of 3/19.
With this win, GT moved to fourth position on the IPL 2025 points table, while RCB came down to third place.
