In a remarkable display of batting prowess, Sri Lanka Women pulled off their second-highest successful run chase in Women’s ODIs against India Women, defeating them by three wickets in the fourth match of the Sri Lanka Women’s Tri-Nation Series 2025 at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on May 4.
Sri Lanka’s chase began steadily with Vishmi Gunaratne (33 runs off 58 balls) and Harshitha Madavi (53 runs off 61 balls) providing a solid foundation after Hasini Perera’s (22 runs off 27 balls) run-out in the eighth over.
Gunaratne and Madavi stitched a 78-run partnership for the second wicket. After Gunaratne's dismissal in the 23rd over, Harshitha also left the middle in the 27th over as Sri Lanka got reduced to 121/3.
While India continued to chip in with wickets, Sri Lanka’s middle-order contributed well with Nilakshi de Silva (56 runs off 33 balls) scoring a quick-fire fifty. Other notable contributions came from Chamari Athapaththu (23 runs off 33 balls) and Kavisha Dilhari (35 runs off 32 balls).
Nilakshi’s innings completed turned the match in Sri Lanka’s favour. However, she fell in the 43rd over to Nallapureddy Charani with the hosts still needing 38 runs with three wickets remaining.
Anushka Sanjeewani (23* runs off 38 balls*) and Sugandika Kumari (19* runs off 20 balls) formed a crucial 40-run stand for the eighth wicket as Sri Lanka completed the run-chase in 49.1 overs with three wickets in hand.
