India fast-bowler Jasprit Bumrah has reportedly sustained a knee injury. He missed in the fifth Test of the ongoing series against England at The Oval. Earlier, it was believed the pacer was rested as part of workload management, but a Mumbai Mirror report confirmed the decision was due to fitness concerns.
Bumrah was released from the squad ahead of the second day of the final Test. He had played three matches in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy and took 14 wickets in six innings, including two five-wicket hauls at Headingley and Lord’s. Despite those efforts, India lost both games.
With India needing a win at The Oval to level the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, there was an expectation that Jasprit Bumrah might play despite earlier workload plans. But the BCCI statement confirmed he would play no further part, stating: "Mr Jasprit Bumrah has been released from India’s squad for the fifth Test of the series against England. The fifth and final Test of the series is underway at Kennington Oval, London."

Jasprit Bumrah Ruled Out of IND vs ENG 5th Test Due to Knee Injury, Says Report
A Mumbai Mirror report revealed that Bumrah’s absence was because of a knee injury. The injury is not considered serious and the BCCI medical team is waiting for his scan results.
"Unfortunately, Bumrah is suffering from a knee injury. The good thing is that it’s not a major one and won’t require surgery. The BCCI medical team is currently awaiting his scan reports," a BCCI official said as quoted to the newspaper.
Bumrah is believed to have hurt his knee during the fourth Test in Manchester. A video from Old Trafford showed him limping while climbing stairs.
The report also added that Bumrah will now begin his rehabilitation at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE).
Jasprit Bumrah's Asia Cup 2025 Participation in Doubt
The Asia Cup in the UAE starts on September 9, but Bumrah may be rested to prepare for the home Test series against West Indies from October 2. If India make the Asia Cup final on September 28, he would have just a few days before the first Test in Ahmedabad.
With his history of back injuries and the importance of World Test Championship points, the team management may keep him out of the T20 tournament. A final decision will be taken by head coach Gautam Gambhir and chief selector Ajit Agarkar in the coming weeks.
