Yashasvi Jaiswal Lights Up The Oval with a Stunning Century Before His Family

Yashasvi Jaiswal brought up his 6th Test century during the fifth Test against England in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy at the iconic Oval Stadium. This century was extra special, as he reached the milestone with his family watching from the stands.

A Memorable Ton at the Oval

It was also Jaiswal’s 4th century against England, two scored in India and two in England. This knock came at a crucial moment, in the second innings of the 5th Test, helping India build a lead of over 300 runs at the Oval. Jaiswal looked in complete control throughout the innings, aside from a few minor lapses in timing.

The left-handed batter had been under pressure after scoring his first Test century at Headingley, as his form had dipped since then and he struggled to convert good starts. The Mumbai boy was publicly criticised for his technique by another Mumbaikar, Sunil Gavaskar, who advised him to improve his front-foot balance after his dismissal in the first innings of the 5th Test.

Rising to the occasion, Jaiswal silenced his critics with a commanding hundred off 127 balls, proudly raising his bat as his family watched on at the Oval. He added 18 more runs before gifting his wicket to Josh Tongue, who dismissed him for 118 off 164 deliveries, an innings that included 14 fours and 2 sixes.

His century received an overwhelming response on social media, especially from his IPL team Rajasthan Royals, who shared a post of his parents reacting to his century at the Oval.

Meanwhile, with his 118-run knock, Jaiswal joins the elite list of Indian batters with 400+ runs against England, a list led by Skipper Shubman Gill, who has scored a record 754 runs at an average of 83, with four centuries, including a double ton of 264 in the 2nd Test.
