The BCCI decided to postpone the IPL 2025 season on May 9 due to escalating border tensions between India and Pakistan. The decision was taken keeping the safe interest of the players playing in the league.
The match between PBKS and DC was called off by the BCCI after heightened border tensions between India and Pakistan. This happened on May 8, and just a day later, the BCCI decided to postpone the IPL 2025 season for a week.
As of now, 16 league games are remaining in the season, with none of the teams having made it to the playoffs yet. The playoffs and the final schedule is also expected to change now with the one-week postponement of the league.

After the IPL, the Asia Cup 2025 might also not be held this year, with the growing tensions between India and Pakistan. However, as of now, the BCCI is keen to complete the remaining IPL season.
"We have suspended the league for one week. We are not looking beyond that at this stage. We are serious about it. Watch out for the next three days," a trusted BCCI source told Cricbuzz.
Meanwhile, the BCCI is quietly confident of resuming the IPL 2025 season soon. They are targeting a window beyond August which will coincide with the Hundred from August 5 to 31. A window in September will overlap with the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) scheduled from August 14 to September 21.
Previously, the BCCI came out with a statement announcing the postponement of IPL 2025 amid conflict between India and Pakistan.
"The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to suspend the remainder of the ongoing TATA IPL 2025 with immediate effect for one week. Further updates regarding the new schedule and venues of the tournament will be announced in due course after a comprehensive assessment of the situation in consultation with relevant authorities and stakeholders," read the statement from BCCI.
