BCB tolerance level over, resorts to legal measures against BPL franchises yet to clear dues

UAE vs Bangladesh T20

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) patience level is over it seems, as it on Monday, May 26 announced that they will take legal action against any Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) franchises if they have failed to pay dues or meet financial obligations despite given repeated warnings. Only two BPL franchises - Fortune Barishal and Rangpur Riders have cleared all the payments to players.

The rest of the six franchises are yet to clear their dues. For the unversed, BPL came under the scanner after several foreign players refused to come to play due to non-settlement of the dues by various franchises.

"The Governing Council has decided to pursue legal measures against defaulting franchises," the BCB governing council said in a statement following the BPL governing council meeting on player payments and revenue distribution from the 11th Edition of BPL T20.
"This decision reflects the BCB's commitment to ensuring contractual accountability and maintaining the integrity of the league," it added.

The BPL payment controversy started when Durbar Rajshahi failed to clear outstanding

It is to be noted that Durbar Rajshahi was the first BPL franchise that came under the limelight when they failed to clear outstanding dues toward their players ahead of BPL 2024 season. The franchise was given multiple warnings to pay the payments. BCB also volunteered to share revenues for the first time in BPL's history after they thoroughly reviewed the financial statements. The board made up its mind to allocate some portion of ticket sales to the teams that have mentioned some problems with player obligations.
